(Update: Many of the deals on this page are expired and therefore the links have been removed. This page is kept for reference)
It’s Cyber Monday today and the shopping season continues. Freebies aren’t as common on Cyber Monday as they are on Black Friday for at least two reasons. One, retailers offer in-store freebies on Black Friday to get more customers into the store on a day when they are particularly likely to spend money. Freebies offered online don’t serve that function. When an online retailer wants to get people to their online store, they advertise through popular websites like Yahoo! and Google (you may have even seen ads today).
Two, if any retailer were to offer a freebie, it wouldn’t actually be free since they would probably have to charge for shipping. A lot of retailers are probably offering free shipping as part of their deals today, but then the product itself isn’t usually free. Many of the freebies listed on theĀ Free Stuff Friday post last Friday are still valid. The JC Penny and Bass Pro Shops promotions are good all through December.
One of the bigger hopes for today was Newegg.com who frequently offers items for Free After Rebate and doesn’t charge shipping or sales tax if you don’t live in the same state where they operate. They don’t have any freebies listed on their Cyber Monday event. However, they are still offering free software as part of their weekly deals.
Fry’s Electronics did not list any freebies on their Cyber Monday specials. (See the first 3 pages of their ads today). However, they are still offering freebies as part of their weekly deals. (See pagesĀ 8, 9, 14, 15, 21 bottom right, 27 which they may be sold out of since that offer was valid on Black Friday, and 30. The page numbers will change by tomorrow. Pages 1-3 will be gone, subtract 3 from other pages.)
Staples Cyber Monday event has free software. Follow the link to see the first 5 items on their software page. They have free shipping on all their Cyber Monday deals.
Office Depot also has a couple of software items for Free After Rebate as part of their Cyber Monday sale. Free shipping on orders above $25. Software for free after rebate should qualify because you will pay more than $25 at the checkout and then get a rebate in the mail.
Tiger Direct has at least 2 non-software items for Free After Rebate listed on their Cyber Monday page. Shipping fees apply with orders less than $100. The two deals which were found are a free wireless optical mouse and an iPad case. The iPad case has actually been free for months as noted on the Free Stuff Friday posts. They may offer other items when you click the “see more” links at the top of each category.
For events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Actually Free tends to focus on tangible freebies that you can pick up in-store or send by traditional mail. However, since Cyber Monday is mostly a web event you may also be able to find freebies that are more apt for a Web Freebie Wednesday post, such as free downloads and free apps for your smart phone. As always, Amazon is offering Free Kindle Books and Free Music Downloads, even though they’re not part of Amazon’s Cyber Monday event.
