TED Talks are a collection of talks from leaders in multiple niches from around the world. The talks are given to spread ideas on how to make the world or your personal life better. The talks could be 5 minutes to 30 minutes in duration. Here is how TED describes itself:
TED is a nonpartisan nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks. TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 110 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world.
You can access TED Talk videos for free online. You do not have to create an account to access the videos. If you decide to create a free account then you’ll have access to additional features such as “liking” a video or adding it to a watch list or favorites list. The videos are played free of ads, but the website is supported by advertising.
Family Friendly Content Advisory: The videos are generally family friendly. However some speakers may use occasional profanity or discuss topics such as human intimacy, sometimes in great detail.
Free Streaming Videos & Free Video Downloads: TED Talks are generally streamed online, but some videos are available for download. To download a video click on the “share” arrow icon on the top right of each video.
Free Web and Social Content: The videos can be embedded into a web page or shared on social media. Click on the “share” arrow icon on the top right of each video.
Ted encourages the creation of multiple splinter groups that can organize similar conferences and talks on a local basis, which are called “TEDx”. There are also other ways to participate with TED, including nominating others for a TED prize and TED Fellows. See their website for more information.
Summary
TED talks are actually free to watch online, free to download and generally ad-free. 0.25 stars was subtracted from “family friendly” for occasional adult topics and profanity. The site is safe to visit.
