Free Food Challenges
Free food challenges are kind of a wager between you and the restaurant. Most of the time the restaurant wins, and the meal happens to be one of the most expensive meals on the menu. So don’t try it unless you can pay for it. However, if you’ve got a hallow leg or a pallet that can withstand any level of hotness, then you might be able to get free food. Sometimes you even get t-shirts, hats and/or free food for your whole party or a series of free meals. Almost every challenge has a wall of fame to immortalize the winners. Some also have a wall of shame.
There are generally two types of free food challenges:
- Free if you can eat it all (volume challenges)
- Free if you can endure the pain (spicy food challenges)
Volume challenges are generally 5 lbs or more. Some are 3 or 4 lbs but they give you less time to complete the meal. For spicy foods there is a scale to measure the hotness, called the Scoville Scale, but the actual level of hotness in spicy food challenges is not ever displayed. You can be sure that it’s more spicy than most people can handle.
Here are some Free Food Challenges across the USA:
Some of the free food challenges may not be clearly evident on the restaurant’s website. If you find that any of these challenges are discontinued please let us know. If you know of others that should be added to this list, please let us know. This list is just a sample. See also Free Food Challenges List on the blog.
