Local Freebie Scavenger Hunt
A local freebie scavenger hunt is the process of finding local freebies that may not be available anywhere else. Actually Free provides general information in how-to articles listed on the Free Stuff page, and multiple freebies are posted on the blog which are generally available nationwide. Yet, there may be a local freebie near you that could not be posted in a general place for freebies.
Examples Of Local Freebies:
Here are a few examples of local freebies:
The bakery at your local grocery store sets out a jar of cookies every Tuesday at 3 pm. The cookies are free for anyone to take. Even if the grocery store is part of a large chain, this is something unique to this branch.
A local “mom & pop” bagel shop places a black garbage bag full of day-old bagels out every morning. The fact that the bagels are in a garbage bag might make someone reluctant to take it, but the shop only puts bagels in the bag, not any trash. And the bag is just as clean on the inside as any grocery bag that you’d use to take groceries home.
A nearby dentist with a private practice sets out a table of free samples for anyone to take, even if they’re not his patient.
The local library sells used books but determines that some books would not sell, so they have a basket full of free books and magazines. The books they give away always depends on what comes in from nearby libraries or donations.
You may know of a particular fudge shop who gives away free samples that is close to your home or work place.
Local Freebie Scavenger Hunt
If you’re looking for something to do that is free and fun, then you can go on a local freebie scavenger hunt. Go to nearby retailers, shopping centers, small shops and local branches of large chains to see what you can discover for free. Some of them will have free samples. Some will have free events. Some will have newspaper stands where free publications are given away, and sometimes they will be day-old paid publications that are given away. (This could be a good resource for extreme couponers). Talk to employees about their disposal process and look for opportunities and resources. (This could be good for dumpster divers).
Once you discover some places that give away freebies regularly, you could make visiting those establishments a normal pastime.
Actually Free Needs Local Freebie Submissions
If you discover local freebies then you can certainly keep your resources to yourself. But if you have no reservations, then why not help other people? Actually Free is maintaining a directory of local freebies; these are freebies that are given away in specific places within cites and neighborhoods across America. However, we don’t have the resources to send people looking in every city in America. That’s why we need your help. You and others within your local community can help each other by contributing submissions to the local freebies directory. If you know of a nearby store, shop, or establishment that offers any freebie at all, we’ll list it in the directory as long as it’s safe, family-friendly and actually free.
