Religious Freebies
Religious freebies are among the most common free samples and gifts. They are very similar to trade show freebies, because in a way religious freebies are sales collateral. The church or religious organization who offers the freebie is trying to spread the gospel and gain new members to their organization. However, the difference between religious freebies and other commercial freebies is that religious freebies are are not always as capitalistic in nature. Some churches are established for the pastor to make money, but others are truly non-profit and simply want to help humanity.
This page is not intended to promote excess requests of freebies from churches. The information is simply here to demonstrate that these gifts are available for anyone who may be interested. Since these gifts are paid for by church members through tithing and donations, it would be courteous to only request the gift if you have interest in that church. If you have no interest in the church who is offering the freebie, then the freebie would not be of much value to you anyway.
How To Get a Free Bible
The hallmark of religious freebies is a free Bible, at least in Christian circles. The Gideons are a well-known organization that distributes Bibles to hotels, schools, prisons, hospitals and other locations. If you’ve ever stayed at any of these locations, you’ve probably seen those Bibles. However, free Bibles are not just available to large organizations; individuals who would like a Bible can probably go to any local church to either receive one or be led to a resource where they can get one for free. Sometimes the gift will be a complete Bible and sometimes it will be the New Testament (the latter portion of the Bible which describes the lives and teachings of Jesus and His apostles). A couple of common providers of religious freebies to individual persons are the Jehovah’s Witnesses and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Most of their handouts are simply flyers and small printed materials. Yet they may also give away Bibles, other books, or short films.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is also known as the LDS Church. While the LDS Church has a number of humanitarian efforts, including measles vaccination campaigns, neonatal resuscitation training, clean water projects, wheelchair distribution, vision treatment, welfare, the Perpetual Education Fund, natural disaster relief and other philanthropies (just to name a few), it also happens to be one of the most common and consistent providers of religious freebies to individuals. The Church’s members are known as Latter-day Saints (LDS) or Mormons. The designation “mormon” is actually a nick-name due to their association with The Book of Mormon, which is a book of holy text that is distinct, yet similar to the Bible. At any given time, individuals can go to Mormon.org to request either a free Bible, a free copy of the Book of Mormon, or one of their DVDs. The DVDs have dramatizations of scripture stories and families. The following is a list of common LDS gifts. Many of these gifts are delivered in person by LDS missionaries.
