Volunteer For Freebies
Charities and non-profits can present opportunities where you could volunteer for freebies.
There are a variety of charities and non-profits, with a variety of missions and operations. If you are in need, you could potentially get freebies from these resources without volunteering. However, you could always volunteer whether your current financial status qualifies as “low income” or not. Sometimes volunteering does not yield anything material in return and serving others has it’s own rewards. Yet, some non-profits will offer freebies to those who volunteer. Here are a few examples:
If you volunteer at a soup kitchen or food bank, you could potentially get a free meal.
One particular non-profit model collects used computer donations. They give free computer training to volunteers. The volunteers repair the computers as a service to the non-profit and they often get to keep a computer of their own after a certain number of hours.
Non-profits frequently get all kinds of donations. As explained on the Retail Leftovers page, sometimes retailers will donate merchandise to non-profits for a tax write-off. Professional sports teams may donate tickets to non-profits as a tax write-off. And there could be a variety of other donations. The non-profit who receives the donations could easily make it part of their operations to give some of what they receive to volunteers. If they particularly need volunteers, then it would be reasonable to offer some type of incentive to attract more people to participate. The non-profit may also use these donations as prizes or for methods of fund raising.
Donating blood could potentially result in quite a few freebies. They’ll probably offer water, juice and snacks while you’re donating. Also, some blood banks will even have a rewards program and you can claim prizes once you’ve accumulated enough points. Prizes might include gift cards or movie tickets. If you want free money, then donating plasma is a better way to go, since they will actually pay you for the “donation”.
If you volunteer for the Peace Corps then you can travel the world and get paid for it.
Some non-profit events are a lot like Trade Shows. They may have vendors and opportunities for outside merchants to promote themselves. When this happens you could potentially get swag such as flashlights, frisbees, pens, and other promotional gifts. If you volunteer for a walk or a race then there will likely be snacks, drinks and other free stuff for participants. Companies and brands who produce products for athletes could offer free samples at those events.
Again, volunteering has it’s own rewards without having to receive any material compensation. However, when freebies are offered, it can be a nice bonus. Go to JustServe.org to find volunteer opportunities.
